Sin is Ugly
Jesus took upon himself the sins of the whole world. God had to turn His back on Him, and because sin is ugly, God could not look at him as Jesus bore our judgment.
Jesus became the final and complete sacrifice for our sins. In the Old Testament, every family sacrificed a lamb without blemish on Passover. Those lambs had their necks slashed open, and blood was poured out for the high priest to take the blood to the holy of holies and pour it on the ark. To roll back sin for one year.
Can you imagine what Jesus felt on the cross when he felt the silence from God? Felt Abandoned! He did it because he loves you.
