Six Keys how to stop feeling out of control with anxiety
Spinning Out of Control and Overwhelmed!
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
22. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
33. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
44. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
55. For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
66. Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations.
77. He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
88. So will I sing praise unto thy name forever, that I may daily perform my vows.
What did David and Jehosaphat do to overcome the overwhelming feelings?
1. GOD IS BIGGER SO RUN TO THE ROCK HIGHER THAN I
David cried out to the Lord (vs. 1-2) We need to know that God is bigger than the things that are bigger than us. That takes faith. In Hebrews 11:1 says " Now afaith is the bsubstance of things choped for, the devidence of things not seen."
We don't always see evidence of God's intervention but God is behind the scene working it out.
David saw God as His rock. That means He is stable, unwavering, immovable, and safe. Just trust in Him without the evidence because He is working behind the scenes of our situations.
2. REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR YOU IN THE PAST
Reflect on what he has done for you in the past. Didn't He take care of the circumstances or give you peace during the storm? In vs. 3-4, David remembers how the Lord has been a shelter and protection from His enemies.
How many times have you felt overwhelmed that it all worked out? Nothing is too big for God. It takes faith to believe He will. Think about it. He created the heavens and earth just by speaking it.
Psalms 25:3 says, "No one who trusts in You shall ever be disgraced."
Put your faith in him that God controls your circumstances even though you cannot see them. It is putting your trust in God that the situation is handled. He's got this, and He's got you.
3. LOOK FOR THE BLESSINGS IN THE BATTLE.
The Lord caused Jehoshaphat’s enemies to destroy each other, resulting in a huge treasure trove of plunder: 2 Chron. 20:25. He trusted God. David ran from Saul many times, and God protected him. If you’re going through a difficult trial today, remember that God can use it to give you far greater blessings in the end than at the beginning (Job 42:12). When we go through tough times that can overwhelm us, we need to focus how the pressure of life deepens our faith. Trials are valuable lessons to be learned that can strengthen our character and bring about spiritual growth.
“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:6-8).
4. Focus on the truth, not the lies! A few verses after the passage above, God says to us, “… Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise” (Philippians 4:8).
We know that fear, stress, and worry do not come from God but from the enemy through lies. When you are anxious, you tell God you don’t think He can handle your problem! Instead, the Bible tells us, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7). Cast them down because fear is never your friend.
5. STAND STRONG ON THE PERSONAL PROMISES MADE TO GOD
David didn't waiver in the Lord. He stood strong, reminding God of His vow, and he expected that God would keep him alive from his enemies. You may not have enemies, but the Lord is there in overwhelming situations.
For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
6Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations.
6. PRAISE HIM
Even when you don't feel like it, praise Him for the
Pour your heart into the Lord by praising God by faith. You will feel the shift in your spirit, replacing fear with faith, peace to replace worry, and joy replaying anxiety.
Gradually, faith replaced fear, peace replaced worry, and joy replaced anxiety.
When we praise him, new confidence and direction can rise, not in yourself but in God’s goodness and what He can do through you.
Does He want to help us live victoriously over our anxiety? Yes. Does He want us to experience joy? Yes. How do I know? Because it’s written all throughout His Word
