Maybe you grew up with an overly critical parent(s), and you don't feel good enough, which can cause you to become sensitive to failure.

Constant, overt criticism from parents can have long-term adverse ideological impacts on their children.

The medical researchers found children whose parent(s) were overtly critical had impaired brain activity that can impede children’s neural responses to reward and punishment.

Were you exposed to overt criticism? Did you know that it triggers a cycle of self-esteem issues and seeking validation at every corner in the long run, which continues in adulthood, leading to anxiety and depression? Do you suffer from depression since you didn’t feel valued and accepted, felt rejected, felt like God made a mistake about you, and nothing you do is good enough?

Other symptoms:

  • feelings of inadequacy and fears at work
  • the effects of low self-worth
  • incompetence,

With no validation, value, reward, or constant overt criticism from any parent, it latches itself onto shame. Shame has the power to undermine the very goals parents have in mind when they admonish their children. Do you feel shameful and isolate yourself?

Instead, the child grows up fearing failure and not feeling good enough. When given a task, you may experience self-doubt in your abilities, which triggers anxiety or panic attacks. There is that looming feeling you are never good enough since there was no reinforcement or validation.
