Be Still to Quiet the Anxiety
“Be still and know that I am God.”
How many of you struggle with an overactive mind that turns into anxious thoughts?
Do you worry about today or your future? Did you know you can cast your cares to the Lord? He wants to take your anxious thoughts.
God's Word is our medicine. “Let go and let God” is the other saying people use. It is trusting God with your worries and letting God let go. Yes, it takes faith in Him.
In Job 31:24-28 "If I've made gold my trust, said to fine gold: “My security!” … that also a punishable offense because I would be disloyal to God above."
The Good News: Don't place all your faith in mortal things like money or objects; your trust should be for God alone. Anything else will let you down.
Job lost everything and had to put his trust in God.
Christians are not immune to hardship. Jesus said, “in the world, you will have tribulation” (John 16:33). For some people, every day is like a tribulation. Maybe you grew up with harshness or had something traumatic happen in your life that causes you to feel anxious all the time?
In Job 13:15, Job declares, “Though He slays me, yet will I hope in him.” This faith-filled statement has challenged countless believers through the centuries to strive for a similar trust in the Lord in the face of trials.
He lost his entire family. His wife offered no support and was, in fact, telling him to give up (Job 2:9). Job felt as though his life was over. The only thing left was to die. But, as Job says, even if God did “slay” him, Job would still trust in Him.
Job’s friends did not recognize him; he was so broken. Job cried out and wished he was dead. Life is rough and can cause anxious thoughts!
Job recognized in Job 3:25 "For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of comes unto me." There is life and death in the tongue. Watch your thoughts and learn to cast your cares to the Lord. You can believe, but it takes faith in Him.
What can you do? See some proven steps that work.
When do you feel overwhelmed with life, worried about something, or like a failure and want to give up? Cry out to God.
Job believes in God. His suffering is overwhelming. All he can see is darkness. Yet, he cries out to God. Job is not alone among the Old Testament saints who rage against God because of suffering and injustice. Later chapters have Job seeing God as his enemy and the cause of his suffering (13:24; 16:9; 19:11; 33:10).
Cry out to God and still know that He created the universe. If we let him, He will carry your concerns of life.
Second, praise His name for His greatness even though you don't feel like it.
Third, stand on His promises. The Bible contains God's promises that will strengthen your faith in Him.
The more you do this, the more you can trust the Lord. He is our peace. The Word is alive and brings healing and wholeness to our body, soul, and spirit.
